My hope is that I can be an inspiration to other survivors of sexual violence, abuse and other forms of trauma. As we heal, we can come out of our dark cocoon, spread our wings and fly free from our past. On these pages, I hope to provide bits of wisdom that might benefit, comfort or inspire you along your healing journey.
I am including some poetry written by fellow survivors. Writing is a very POWERFUL form of therapy! My hope is that reading poems of fellow survivors might inspire you to write and experience this release yourselves.
See below for new material posted Sept. 21, 2006.

Its why she stays longer than she should, knowing how uneasy his presence makes her feel.
Its why the girl would spend hours in a car
Arguing with a man she barely knows.
She could be killed.
She is aware that she can end it buy opening the door and leaving, but it makes her stay.
Its why she goes back when he hurts her so.
His kindness, his touch, his love only to feel that way Again. His glorious lies of a life together a beautiful picture--a masterpiece Painted with her blood.
She has nothing left but the hugs and kisses from strangers promising love for the night.
She learned not to cry or scream but to live with her heartache in silence.
She remembers when she had promised
Her heart to only one,
Her tears aren't of frustration or pain but for love.
Its why she looks into unknown men's eyes each night searching, searching, time and time Again for the one who will love her right.
Fran is a brave, young (she's only 19), talented survivor. I hope you enjoy some of her poems. To learn more, please visit her Blog.

Songs and Whispers
Songs and whispers they
dance around in my head.
I am a child dreaming of a
magical place to escape,
from all the horrible
things going on, hoping they
will never happen to me again.
Songs and whispers
of a happy place to play,
have fun and feel no shame
or disgrace. A place where
all abused children go, to
escape the pain of the
unwanted touching of those
monsters hands.
Holding on
to that happy place where
songs and whispers put a
smile on each
of those children's face.

Let me…
To my fighting brothers and sisters,
Let me fight with you,
And allow me to salute you….
To my fellow activists,
Let me advocate with you,
And allow me to thank you….
To the people encouraging survivors,
Let me encourage with you,
And allow me to be proud of you….
To the people educating others,
Let me educate with you,
And allow me to appreciate you….
To those that are shouting to the world,
Let me shout with you,
And allow me to honor you….
To those that haven’t found their voice yet,
Let me shout for you,
And allow me to mourn with you….
To empowering men and women,
Let me support others with you,
And allow me to be grateful for you….
To courageous individuals,
Let me be courageous with you,
And allow me to be treasure you….
To you, my beautiful friends,
Let me be strong with you,
And allow me to cherish you….
Sara Cook is an awesome survivor with a MySpace page called "Victims No More." Please click on either graphic for a link to her amazing, helpful blog. Sara is also a gifted poet, as you can see by the poem I've included below.
"You are like a butterfly,
A Caterpillar's dream to fly
So bust out of this old cocoon
And dry your wings off, Butterfly
Go ahead, and fly"
Dave Matthews
I have a precious survivor friend on MySpace who calls herself Angel...and she truly is! She wrote this beautiful poem:
To All
To all who have cried silent tears
From the abuse they kept hidden for all these years
To all who have wondered why
They had to go through what they did
To all those who have endured the pain
Of years of affliction upon them
To all of you we hold you close to our heart
For no child, nor anyone deserves
The scars their abusers left with them
To carry and hold onto for so long
So afraid the hurt held deep within
Broken hearts and wings so torn
You've felt so battered and scorned
Longing for comfort and safe arms to hold you
You took the blame they tried to give to you
It's not your fault what they say is not true
Your so very precious and dear
No matter what your abusers may say
You deserve to heal and be free from that pain
Let me wrap safe arms around you
Let me hold you until your pain subsides
And when the night seems to last so long
You feel the pain will never end
Remember someone cares for you dearheart
And someone holds you close to their heart
Crying tears with you right their beside you
My heart breaks deep down for you
Please know I care and if you need me I am there
For even if I am miles away
That will never change how I feel in my heart for you
