Stop moving into the darkness...and start your journey into the light.
This exercise has proven to be effective in healing:
Allow yourself to be uninterrupted for a minimum of 20 minutes. Turn your cell phone off! Get into a comfortable position. Lie down or recline if possible. Close your eyes and become aware of your breathing. Take some deep, cleansing breaths to relax. If possible, record the following instructions and re-play them on an IPOD, CD player, tape recorder, etc. in a soothing voice:
1. LABEL what it is that you are feeling: Anger,
Rage, Depression, Shame etc.
2. In your mind's eye, picture yourself (visualize)
reaching up to the light/God/ higher power.
3. Grab a hold of the light, watch it expand,
surrounding you. Picture the brightest light
possible...(caution -- if you have migraines like I do, this might not sound like a pleasant experience
-- be sure to visualize a light that is comforting to YOU as an individual -- I had to picture a softer light, since a blinding, bright light often triggers a migraine for me),
a wonderful, all powerful healing light.
4. Now concentrate on your breathing again.
As you breath in, picture yourself breathing in
this powerful light. Picture the light going into
every cell of your body and your thoughts and
feelings as well.
5. Now, picture this light meeting face-to-face with
those feelings you labeled earlier: the anger,
rage, depression, shame etc.
6. Picture this light diffusing or transmuting those
feelings that are holding you back, with the most
powerful sense of love and security.
7. Tell yourself that these feelings are there, yes,
but they are not a part of who you are. They are
a part of your emotional body, not your higher
self.
8. Allow yourself to feel the healing energy of this
light and keep concentrating on your breath...
breathing in the comforting light.
9. For those of you who believe in auras and
chakras, do this step. For those of you who do
not, move on to step 10.
When you breathe in the light, concentrate the
light around your heart chakra and imagine it so
powerful that it radiates out into the world
around you. Now, anchor the light to your heart.
10. Continue your breathing and use of the healing
light for 5, 10, 15 minutes or as long as you can.
Make a commitment to do this exercise every day. Three times a day is recommended, but not essential. The results are astounding.
When my friend Cathy first questioned her friend who introduced her to this exercise, she told him she was afraid that if she did this and became happier and healthier that she would lose her protection and ability to take care of herself...which has always been using her feelings of anger and rage. Her friend affirmed that not only would she NOT lose her ability to protect herself, but that she would be in a much more powerful position to take care of herself...she would still be able to fight and even become aggressive if that's what the universal spirit intended for her to do. Her friend also said that in holding onto the feelings that are self-defeating we are actually turning them in on ourselves and continuing our own re-victimization, which in turn leads to our own demise.
Please note: Repetition is necessary. Because, as Cathy's friend put it, "It is like you have a jug of stagnant water and you can't pour it out. So, you start to slowly pour fresh water into the jug and before you know it, the stagnant water has been displaced and replaced by fresh, life-sustaining water. I like that image! Let's all fill ourselves up with fresh, living water!!
Good luck and God bless, Hope
